Movie Review: Tomb Raider

Written by Christine Gill

The movie Tomb Raider was released on March 16, of this year. The film was eagerly awaited by many of its loyal fans who had grown up playing the Tomb Raider video games, and had been disappointed with the Tomb Raider films released in the early 2000’s. Unlike its original, the remake of the story takes place before its main character, Lara Croft, had ever experienced an adventure. The movie begins with showing her backstory and eventually builds up to her first adventure near the climax of the film. The main premise of the film is that Lara Croft is searching for her father who is believed to be dead, and at the same time she is searching for the remains of a Japanese Emperor who was believed to have strange powers regarding death. Along the way she is finally reunited with her father on the island where the tomb is believed to be. They must beat the antagonist group named Trinity from finding the tomb first, and in the end just barely remain victorious. The main actress, Alicia Vikander, did an amazing job in her role as Lara Croft, and indeed gave her character justice with her incredible acting skills, and her ability to adapt to each and every scene. The director, Roar Uthaug completely captured the film’s cinematics with his amazing choice of cinematography and stunts. In all, the remake of the enticing series Tomb Raider surpassed any expectations, and was a great beginning to hopefully an equally as thrilling sequel later in the future.
