Billboard Hot 100 Review: Week of December 1, 2018

22) Taki Taki by DJ Snake, Selena Gomez, Ozuna, and Cardi B: DJ Snake is really talented and has a knack for unique, hard-hitting production. However, Taki Taki is a big disappointment despite its massive popularity. The production consists of extremely basic percussion and sub-bass, with a flute riff that gets pitched up and down but otherwise doesn’t change and runs for the entirety of the song. Ozuna’s hook is a heavily autotuned reiteration of the flute melody, Cardi B is average at best, and Selena Gomez’s former child star status and horribly corny rhyming of “fiesta” with “siesta” don’t fit the attempt at a dark sound at all. Raggaeton as a genre continues to be completely devoid of variety, meaning, passion, and any other redeeming factors.
