Artist of the Week: Mozzy

Written by Jack Robertson

Known as Mozzy, Timothy Patterson is a rapper from Sacramento, California. Known for bringing the spirit of Death Row Records to the 21st century, Mozzy’s lyrics speak about where he comes from and what he has gone through. He began rapping in 2004 under the name “Lil Tim” until 2011 when he changed his name to Mozzy because of the album “Money means Mozzy”. His first popular album “Bladadah” was named by Rolling Stones the 22nd best rap album of 2015. Followed by “Mandatory Check” which was #11 on Billboards top R&B/hip-hop albums chart, thus beginning to put him on the radar for California rappers. He proceeded to drop 3 albums in 2017 including “1 Up Top Ahk” which debuted in the Top 100 billboard main album chart in the summer of 2017 (#36). One song off that album “Sleep Walkin’ was used in the final scene of the Marvel movie “Black Panther”. He also appeared on the chart-topping soundtrack to the same movie “Black Panther” called “Paramedic”. In 2018, he dropped the album “Gangland Landlord” which continued to put him on the national scene.
