Sunday March 10th is the start of Daylight Saving Time where the nation will spring forward an hour. So get ready Dominican, you’ll have to adjust your sleeping schedules to wake up an hour earlier than before. A similar concept to Daylight Saving Time was proposed in 1784 by founding father, Benjamin Franklin in an essay he wrote titled “An Economical Project”. The initial idea wasn’t to change the time, but to simply alter one’s sleeping schedule which was influenced by the Parisians. Contrary to popular belief, Benjamin Franklin doesn’t write a single word about farmers wanting to make better use of sunshine. Instead Benjamin Franklin does the calculations on how much more money people spent on candles during the season with less sunlight. Yet the first official Daylight Savings Time occurred over a hundred years later during 1916 in Germany and Austria. It wasn’t until 1918 that the United Stated adopted Daylight Savings.
