Artist of the Week: Lil Durk

Durk D. Banks, or better known as Lil Durk, is a rapper and singer from the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago’s south side. He dropped his first mixtape “OTF” (Only the Family) in 2011. In this same year, he was featured on songs with fellow Chicago rappers Fredo Santana, Chief Keef and Lil Reese. His debut album “Remember My Name” which is when I started listening to him released in 2015 after becoming affiliated with French Montana’s Coke Boys. The album featured artists such as Logic, Jeremih, King Popo.  He followed that up with a mixtape in 2016 “Lil Durk 2x” which featured DeJ Loaf, Yo Gotti, Young Thug and Ty Dolla $ign. It was also the first mixtape to feature his single “She Just Wanna” feat Ty Dolla $ign. He dropped multiple mixtapes in 2017 “Love Songs for the Streets”, “Supa Vultures” feat Lil Reese a fellow Chicago rapper and “Bloodas” feat newly popular rapper Tee Grizzley. In 2018, he dropped “Just Cause Y’all Waited” and Durkio Crazy. His third studio album “Signed to the Streets 3” was released in November and appeared 220th on the Billboard 200 at one point this year.
