Artist of the Week: Meek Mill

Written by Jack Robertson

Being born and raised in North Philadelphia, Meek Mill is most known more for his electrifying and relatable lyrics. While also being unjustly jailed for over a year with many people claiming it only happened to him because he is African-American, he first became known by rapping about his hard childhood as well as adulthood in Philadelphia on multiple outstanding mix-tapes. Rick Ross proceeded to sign him to his Maybach Music Group, which also has artists such as Rick Ross himself and Wale. Since then, he has produced multiple Platinum and Gold certified albums such as “Dreams and Nightmares””Dreams Worth More Than Money”, “Wins & Losses” and his newest “Championships” released somewhat after he was released from jail. “Dreams Worth More Than Money” debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and became a Platinum Certified album while “Wins & Losses”, “Dreams and Nightmares” and “Championships” are Gold certified. “Dreams Worth More Than Money” was also named “Top Rap Album” at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards.
