Why Should You Watch This Movie?

The real question is; why shouldn’t you watch this movie? This movie is a classic piece of animation history, becoming the first movie to ever earn the “Best animated film award” running against Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, and Monsters, Inc. Not only is this movie considered a classic film, but it’s now an important part of pop cultural. With the internet culture making the ogre a major icon. This culture has gone so far to create a yearly festival for Shrek, named Shrekfest in Madison, Wisconsin. The festival has such party games as Onion eating contests, binging all the Shrek movies and various other events.

Other than the crazy culture behind the film, it’s also just a good movie. Sure it can be over the top and gross at times, but past that it’s a great movie with a good message for kids, and adults alike. With the famous “Layers” quote in the movie giving one big summary to the message of the film “ NO! Layers. Onions have layers. Ogres have layers… You get it? We both have layers.” Showing that there is a lot more to people that just what you see. Shrek looks like an evil, blood thirsty Ogre, but he is much more than that, really showing that we are very judgmental of other people and we have to be less judgemental. I’m not going to go into the plot of the movie, because chances are you already know it. If you don’t, and have never seen the movie, you should just go and watch this movie. Please, I highly recommend this movie, and if you’ve already seen it, watch it again.
