On November 18th I missed the entire school day for an art field trip! Our first stop was the UWM printmaking wing where we made t-shirts. I was in a group with Adonya, Autumn, Taylor, and Nia. After spending the morning learning about printmaking and how we’d transfer prints onto t-shirts, we began mixing paint in preparation for our print transfers. We each got a turn to mix the paint, and all printed our shirts with whichever design we chose from. After leaving UWM we headed to the Milwaukee Public Market where I got Egyptian rice and falafel from Aladdin’s Grill and a vegan chocolate milkshake from On the Bus. After lunch, we headed to the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD) to do more printmaking. At MIAD, we got a tour of the campus and learned about all the cool projects they do and the events they host. The printmaking process at MIAD was only done on paper but very complex. We were working with expensive and sensitive tools and had to be sure to follow directions very well. As the field trip came to a close we were all pretty tired but ended up taking home some beautiful art that we made ourselves.
